Kona Mountain Coffee

The kona coffee is the one which a special of it’s kind. It is grown only in one place in the world.

The region where the coffee is grown and cultivated is a mountain area which was volcanic many decades ago and all the lava that had flowed had made the soil rich and most suitable for the cultivation of Kona Mountain coffee. It is a very small area of land where this unique coffee is grown and coffee grown in any other part of Hawaii cannot be classified as Kona coffee. North and South Kona region on the western side of the big island of Hawaii is what this area comprises of and where your favorite coffee grows and flourishes under ideal climate conditions and very rich soil.

Coffee has been grown in this region from the year 1828 a century and more of experience has made the farmers who have been cultivating this crop for generations establish an emotional bonding with the crop. The mountainous slopes of Hualalai and Mauna Loa which are at elevations of 500 to 2500 feet provide the most ideal conditions for the cultivation of coffee. The weather which is bright and sunny in the morning with cloud cover and rain in the afternoon and frost free conditions in the night let this plant blossom and prosper. There are different types of Kona Mountain coffee each with a taste entirely unique and different from the other.

As the picking of the coffee beans is still done through hands only the ripe coffee cherries are picked and others left on the plant to ripen. The beans are monitored daily and an experienced picker will be able to correctly ascertain when the beans can be picked and they will be able to pick up beans to fill a 100 pound bag. Once the beans are picked they are left to dry and sorted as per the size and shape of the bean.

The freshness of the mountains and the purity in its air can also be felt in the Kona coffee. A lot of people have hanged to the Kona Mountain coffee once they have tasted it as they feel there is none like it.
